The actor said that Amanda made him realise that he needed to get serious about his career and stop partying so much.
"Meeting my wife Amanda was the best thing that could ever have happened to me," Bateman told OK. "She wasn't going to let me screw around my life anymore, so I stopped drinking and started behaving like a decent human being.
"Then I got very, very lucky when Arrested Development came along. That series saved my career - it gave me back my credibility I used to have when I was much younger and before people gave up on me as a party guy in Hollywood."
The couple welcomed their first child Francesca in 2006 and are currently expecting their second daughter.
The creator of Arrested Development recently confirmed that there will be a miniseason of new episodes leading up to the release of a film based on the series.
