Bruce Forsyth on knighthood: 'The waiting was torment'

Bruce Forsyth has said that he went through "years of torment" before receiving a knighthood earlier this month.
The Strictly Come Dancing host explained that the honour came as something of a "relief" after a long-running campaign by fans seemingly failed to get results.
"It's been five years of torment," he told The Mail On Sunday. "It's beginning to sink in now and it's done wonders for my confidence.
"I'm a pretty confident person. But even after 83 years you need a boost now and again. The knighthood has definitely given me a boost."

He added: "Since I got the CBE in 2006, people have been coming up to me from all different walks of life and asking, 'Why haven't you got a knighthood?' The more people kept asking me, the more I wondered why it was.
"I asked myself whether I had done something wrong. I wondered what the reason might be. Now it's actually happened it's a relief to me."
Forsyth thanked a wide array of people, from the press to the British public, upon collecting his knighthood from the Queen on October 12.
"The public have been so loyal," he said at the time. "They helped. And even the MPs in the House of Commons; they got a motion up as well. So to have this kind of support... I feel everybody has got a part of this in a way."
