The couple welcomed baby boy Kase Townes in July in Texas.
Murray, a professional bull rider, told People that while he and Jewel want the child to "find a passion", they ultimately hope that it will be something safer than the rodeo.
"The last thing in the world you want to think about is him getting on a bull. It's the most dangerous sport in the world. It would give me and Jewel grey hair instantly," he explained.
"It's our job to protect him and shepherd him the best we can if that's what he really wants to do. It would be the hardest thing in the world for me - I can't think of anything worse!"
Jewel has previously said that she felt "blessed" to be a woman and able to experience pregnancy, describing it as "a privilege" that she enjoyed.
