The Australian television personality, whose 32-year-old daughter Lauren is married to champion swimmer Matt Welsh, announced that they are expecting their third child next March. The couple are already parents to Eva and Sam.
Bert told Woman's Day magazine: "I'm really thrilled. It's almost like going into a show that you know is a success - because we've already got two of the most beautiful grandchildren. To think that another one is on the way is wonderful.
"These two grandkids have brought something into Patti's and my life that is just so special. If you've had a hard day or if you're working hard... just to get back and hear them say, 'We've missed you, Poppy' is the highlight of my life."
Wife Patti added: "These simple pleasures are what we enjoy. Because of that, we couldn't be more pleased with this third pregnancy."
Lauren revealed that her brother Matthew, who has been in and out of a psychiatric clinic since allegedly attacking then-girlfriend Rachael Taylor last year, is "very excited" at the prospect of becoming an uncle again, but admitted that he is still taking "a day at a time".
Bert was recently hospitalised with a severe bout of pneumonia but said that he feels very "lucky" to have made a full recovery.
