Madonna donates £2.3m to sect

Iconic singer Madonna has given more than £2.3million to the Kabbalah sect over a period of four years.

In recent years the star's involvement with the mystical religious group has created a great deal of publicity, and her enthusiasm for the teachings of Kabbalah has led to her encouraging several other celebrities to follow them.

Now it is evident that her support also comes in the form of money. According to This Is London, the 'Hung Up' singer's tax returns for the years 2001 to 2004 reveal that she donated the massive sum through her Ray of Light Foundation.

Whilst Madonna gave the group £1million in 2002, she handed over only £386,000 in 2004. Her charitable work was not limited to Kabbalah though, as she also contributed £325,000 to a fund for New York police widows and families after September 11.
