The Australian Olympic swimmer, who has twins Jagger and Charlize with wife Candice Alley, admitted that he and Alley dealt with some "private issues" after spending the day at a Melbourne Cup event, which resulted in eight squad cars arriving to find the apartment in disarray.
Hackett told the Herald Sun: "The events of Saturday evening were very much unfortunate and out of character for me. There has been speculation about Candice and I and our personal property, which is all fine.
"I am overwhelmingly embarrassed and apologetic and look forward to putting this incident behind us."
Hackett later told Channel Nine: "Candice is 100% okay, our apartment is 100% okay and so are our twins, so it is all a bit of an unfortunate misunderstanding that we have to deal with. We had a fantastic day at Derby Day and everything went well and then we attended an after-party at Crown, and that was fun as well.
"And then [we] came home and had a few private issues that we needed to deal with, and we have dealt with those. Everything is okay. Our relationship is great."
Alley has not directly addressed the incident but revealed on her official Twitter page yesterday that she, Hackett and their children spent the afternoon decorating their Christmas tree.
