'Supernatural' star Jared Padalecki expecting a baby boy

Jared Padalecki has announced that he is expecting a baby boy.

The Supernatural star, who revealed last month that he and wife Genevieve Cortese have a baby on the way, said that he originally thought the child would be a girl.

"I originally had the intuition that it would be a girl - shows what I know!" Padalecki told Tonic.

He went on to say that he is happy with the child's sex, insisting that he had no preference for either a boy or a girl.

"I grew up in a family where the oldest sibling was a boy and I appreciated the extra guidance and protection," Padalecki said."As cheesy as it sounds, I really want, and wanted, nothing more than a healthy baby."

The actor revealed that the couple will not choose a name for their child until they meet him.

"We've thrown around countless names, probably every one in the books and a few that we kind of made up," he said. "But we both agree that we'd like to meet our child before we decide [on] a name."

Padalecki and Cortese wed in Sun Valley, ID in 2010.
