Jessica Simpson has said that she and fiancé Eric Johnson are ecstatic to be expecting their first child.

The singer and actress confirmed her pregnancy earlier this week via an announcement on her official website following weeks of speculation.

Simpson told US Weekly: "We're both thrilled. We can't wait to meet our baby!"

A source close to Simpson also told the publication that Simpson is "very, very excited" to become a mother, explaining: "Family is the most important thing to her.

"[She's been] really tired lately. She goes to bed super early now and gets up at 5.30 in the morning."

Simpson has insisted that she is not bothered by her pregnancy weight gain and likes her body the way it is.

She and Johnson are rumoured to be postponing their planned November wedding until after the baby is born.
