Rooney still affected by brothel shame
Published Monday, Jul 17 2006, 11:35 BST | By Daniel Kilkelly
Wayne Rooney is still ashamed about reports of his visits to brothels.
The Manchester United star admits that his past behaviour still affects his relationship with fiancée Coleen McLoughlin.
"Yes I had been to a brothel, a massage parlour, call it anything you like, when I was 16," Rooney writes in his new autobiography. "It was not long after I met Coleen. We weren't engaged or anything and anyway, I didn't know if it would lead anywhere. I felt so ashamed that I'd let her down so much. I've always loved her and always will, so why had I done such a shameful thing?
"When I confessed, that made it even worse as she had believed the best of me. She was devastated. It's my biggest single regret in life. I can never sufficiently make it up to Coleen - but I have tried and am trying."
Rooney's book will hit the shelves on July 27.
