'Today Tonight's Sally Obermeder reveals breast cancer "shock"
The 38-year-old Australian television personality, who is best known for her presenting role on Today Tonight, said that it was a complete "shock" when she was told that she had aggressive cancer the day before she gave birth to daughter Annabelle.
Obermeder told New Idea magazine: "You never think today will be the day that someone says you have breast cancer. There's no way to describe the moment when you are given such devastating news.
"You don't want to turn up at the hospital sobbing because your baby has to be induced so you can start chemotherapy straight away. This is supposed to be the most joyous time, but it's turned out to be heartbreaking."
Obermeder, who is married to stockbroker Marcus, said that she knew that "there must be something wrong" when she went to a clinic for an ultrasound and ended up having to have a biopsy.
"At no stage did I think they'd say it was breast cancer," she said. "It was like I was walking through a field of daisies and someone suddenly hit me with a baseball bat from behind. I didn't see it coming."
Obermeder has already started treatment for her breast cancer and will then have chemotherapy. This will be followed by surgery and radiation therapy.
She added: "It's a long, tough road I'm facing. But I'm so blessed and grateful that we have [Annabelle]."
X Factor contestant Pamela Cook revealed earlier this year that she discovered she had breast cancer when she was 16 weeks pregnant.
