The Dancing on Ice judge revealed on Twitter this weekend that he handed over his iPhone to two youths after being threatened with a knife.
Speaking to Phillip Schofield on This Morning, he recalled of the event: "I was on my way to a friend's place for dinner at ten to eight in the evening.
"And the thing is, it was because I was on my iPhone and I was looking at Google Maps."
Addressing the wider public, Gardiner continued: "So you must be very careful and aware that actually you are a beacon and a sitting target for muggers when you're on your iPhone and looking at this application."
When asked by Schofield whether he felt scared during the attack, Gardiner said: "Yeah, oh yeah. It was pretty harrowing."
