The LA Galaxy player's contract ends this weekend and he has been linked with a possible move to French club Paris Saint-Germain.
According to The Sun, Beckham said: "I need to look how my body feels at the end of this season because coming back after the injuries I had last season was difficult."
He added that he will discuss his future with his wife Victoria but said he may well "do something else", rather than continue with club football.
Paris Saint-Germain defender Sylvain Armand reportedly told Cfoot that he does not want David to join the club, adding: "He will come for our image and it's good to play with a world star, but then on the field..."
David started his senior playing career at Manchester United in 1993 before moving to Real Madrid a decade later. He then moved to LA Galaxy in 2007 and enjoyed two loan spells at Italian club AC Milan.
He received 115 caps for England, scoring 17 goals. He has long said that he hopes to play for the planned Great Britain team at the London Olympics in 2012.
Earlier this year, David admitted that he found it hard to leave his wife and four children at home in Los Angeles when his playing career forces him to travel.
It was claimed that the Beckhams' daughter Harper Seven will be their last child, but David later confessed that he hopes to have one more.
