Moore announced plans to divorce Kutcher earlier this week, effectively ending their six-year marriage.
According to US Weekly, the actress wants to spend more time on her own and with Rumer, 23, Scout, 20, and Tallulah, 17.
"She said [she] was going to change for the better. And [she said] that it was time for her to focus on herself again and her girls," a source told the publication.
Moore and Kutcher's relationship came under scrutiny earlier this year amidst rumours that Kutcher had engaged in extra-marital affairs.
Kutcher recently gave up control of his Twitter account following a series of controversial statements made about former college football coach Joe Paterno.
