Jimmy Fallon apologises to Michele Bachmann for 'Lyin' Ass Bitch' song

Jimmy Fallon has publicly apologised to Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann for playing an offensive song during her Late Night interview.

Bachmann's appearance on Late Night made headlines this week, when Fallon's house band The Roots performed the Fishbone track 'Lyin' Ass Bitch' as she walked on the set.

Neither Fallon nor Bachmann appeared to recognise the song and made no reference to it during the appearance.



Supporters of the Congresswoman have since called on Fallon to apologise to Bachmann and some have even suggested that The Roots should be fired.

Fallon first made a comic reference to the incident on his Twitter, insisting that Roots band leader Questlove was "grounded".

Questlove later took full responsibility for the song choice, saying in a statement: "The performance was a tongue-in-cheek and spur-of-the-moment decision.

"The show was not aware of it and I feel bad if her feelings were hurt. That was not my intention."

Fallon has since offered an unqualified apology to the Minnesota Congresswoman by tweeting: "I'm honoured that [Bachmann] was on our show yesterday and I'm so sorry about the intro mess. I really hope she comes back.

"Actually it was a really fun interview. She helped me with my Minnesota accent. (I still sound Irish.)"

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 12.35am EST on NBC.
