The award-winning actress said in an interview with More that she's longed to become a mother for quite some time.
"I'm definitely going to adopt - or have - a child," Latifah commented. "I've wanted to adopt since I was 17 or 18 years old."
Latifah went on to say that she wants to grow old gracefully, rather than have frequent cosmetic surgeries in order to appear youthful.
"When I was a kid, I was always the one hanging with older cool people," the star recalled. "I've met so many people all through my life who made growing older look good. Look at Jamie Lee Curtis, not getting plastic surgery and not changing her hair."
It was announced in October that Latifah will host her own daytime talk show, beginning in 2013.
Latifah stars alongside Dolly Parton in director Todd Graff's musical film Joyful Noise, which opens on January 13 in US cinemas.
