Asher Keddie has revealed that she thinks women put too much pressure on themselves.

The Logie-nominated Australian actress, who is best known for her role as Nina Proudman in Offspring, said that females think too much about being in "control" and keeping busy when they should just be relaxing and enjoying life.

Keddie told Marie Claire magazine: "Not only [is there pressure] to maintain a high level of activity, but to be in control of every area of our lives, and look after everyone else's as well.

"Through my 20s, acting was the be all and end all, and I ended up feeling strung out. Once I hit my 30s, I realised I needed to make changes, so I moved to the country to spend time with my horses."

Keddie is among a group of female celebrities sharing their experiences of depression, stress and mental health in support of Marie Claire's Shine a Light campaign.

Other stars taking part in the campaign include Winners and Losers actress Zoe Tuckwell-Smith, former model Charlotte Dawson, singer Ricki-Lee Coulter, TV presenters Samantha Armytage and Jessica Rowe and Home and Away star Ada Nicodemou.
