Jimmy Carr is never far from controversy, as his recent gag about Down's Syndrome proved, but he's not all about the edgy stuff.

On his new DVD Being Funny, Carr stretches himself with an attempt at some regional accents, before giving the audience a masterclass in the art. To mark the release of the disc, Jimmy's people have stuck together a new animation to illustrate the lesson.

Carr recently told Digital Spy that he is trying to expand his comedic style beyond pure joke-telling.

"I think the next thing for me will be bringing a bit more performance into it," he said. "I look at Lee Evans and Michael McIntyre and Peter Kay and the acting they do on stage.

"Jack Dee's a big influence on that for me. He's known as being quite deadpan, but if you look at his stand-up he does all of the voices and the acting and he really makes it come alive."
