Following its award-winning Broadway run, the musical - based on the band's 2004 album - tours the UK from October to December.
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said: "We're excited to be bringing the US stage production of American Idiot to the UK and Ireland.
"We played to some of the most insane crowds when we toured the album there, and we can't wait for our friends across the pond to see the musical."
Tickets go on sale next Friday, December 9 at 10am.
The full American Idiot UK tour dates are as follows:
- October 9 - 13 - Southampton's Mayflower Theatre
- October 15 - 20 - Cardiff's Millennium Centre
- October 22 - 27 - Edinburgh Playhouse
- October 29 - November 3 - Glasgow Clyde Auditorium
- November 5 - 10 - Dublin Grand Canal Theatre
- November 12 - 24 - Manchester Palace Theatre
- November 26 - 30 - Birmingham Alexandra Theatre
- December 4 - 9 - London's HMV Hammersmith Apollo
American Idiot features a number of tracks from the album, together with further music from 2009's 21st Century Breakdown and unreleased love song 'When It's Time'.
Its story of three friends searching for meaning in a post-9/11 world was written by Armstrong and Michael Mayer, who also directs.
Choreography is by Steven Hoggett, with music supervision, orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt, scenic design by Christine Jones and lighting design by Kevin Adams.
American Idiot closed on Broadway in April following a fall in ticket sales after Amstrong's departure from the cast after 50 performances this year.
Amstrong has revealed plans to pen an entirely new musical project with Mayer in the future.
