The ARIA-nominated Australian singer, who has just announced her first headline national tour with fellow Australian Idol star Stan Walker next year, said that she likes to go home to Darwin and escape the crazy world of fame.
Mauboy told The Daily Telegraph: "You have to be able to escape [celebrity] a little bit to be able to come back and do it again. When I go back home, I am just Jess, no-one special. I do the dishes, [and] everything normal."
She also spoke about her father Ferdy, who was seriously injured two months ago in an electrical explosion at the Darwin substation where he works.
"He's so strong," Mauboy added. "[He's] not only a wonderful father, so supportive, he is really my backbone [in] everything I do. He sets me up for every performance."
Mauboy was recently involved in a "horrible" mid-air incident when the plane flying her to Los Angeles had a fault and had to make an emergency landing.
She later described the ordeal as "terrifying".
