Jessica Mauboy launches fashion collection with Myer

Jessica Mauboy has launched her own fashion line.

The 22-year-old ARIA-nominated Australian singer, who launches her first ever national headline tour alongside Stan Walker early next year, said that having her own five-dress fashion range with Myer does not make her a professional designer.

Mauboy, who teamed up with label KuKu to create a collection aimed at curvy girls, told The Daily Telegraph: "They're party dresses and I like to think they're sexy and cute. But I'm not a designer at all!

"I love creating music but in a way I used the same techniques to create ideas for the dresses with colours and styles and how they fit together. I came in with nine dress ideas, but we had to cut the list down to five and they're each named after one of my songs."

The dresses are reportedly made of light, easy-to-wear fabric and come in vibrant purples, oranges and yellows.

Mauboy presented the range to fans for the first time in Sydney's Pitt St Mall yesterday, performing a medley of her songs at the launch.

Earlier this week, the musician said that she loves returning home to Darwin because it helps her "escape" the celebrity world.

"When I go back home, I am just Jess, no-one special," she explained. "I do the dishes, [and] everything normal."

She also revealed that her recent emergency crash landing on a flight to Los Angeles was a "terrifying" experience.
