Hart has been shortlisted for the 'Best Female Television Comic', 'Best TV Comedy Actress' and the public-voted 'King Or Queen Of Comedy' awards, the latter two of which she won at last year's event.

Her BBC programme Miranda will compete against Friday Night Dinner for 'Best Sitcom', while the Channel 4 show is also up for 'Best New Comedy Programme', 'Best TV Comedy Actress' for Tamsin Greig and 'Best Breakthrough Artist' for Tom Rosenthal.

Fresh Meat, Twenty Twelve and Harry Hill are next with three nominations apiece. The two shows will go head-to-head in both the 'Best New Comedy Programme' and 'Best TV Comedy Actor' categories, with Meat's Jack Whitehall battling it out with Hugh Bonneville in the latter.

Fresh Meat also picks up a nomination in the 'Best Comedy Drama' category, and Twenty Twelve's last nomination is for the 'Best Sitcom' gong.

Hill, meanwhile, will compete to win 'Best Comedy Entertainment Personality', 'Best Male Television Comic' and 'Best Comedy Entertainment Programme' for TV Burp.

Elsewhere, Horrible Histories will fend off competition from Come Fly With Me, Ronnie Corbett's The One Ronnie and This Is Jinsy to retain the 'Best Sketch Show' award after their shock win last year.

Celebrity Juice, Have I Got News For You, the now-axed Shooting Stars and reigning champion Would I Lie to You? will compete to be named 'Best Comedy Panel Show'.

Jonathan Ross will host the British Comedy Awards for the second year running. The ceremony airs live on Channel 4 on Friday (December 16) at 9pm.
