Mia Farrow has suggested that video footage of crowds of North Koreans crying over Kim Jong-il's death may have been staged.
Since the announcement of Kim Jong-il's death on Monday (December 19), North Korean television has shown footage of crowds of the country's citizens openly weeping in the streets.
Farrow, a noted peace activist, cast doubt on the legitimacy of the footage on her Twitter account by hinting that the mourning may have been staged.
"N Korea: Ppl sobbing, wailing & thrashing about - as an actor I can say, they would never get hired (sic)," the star tweeted.
Farrow has a long history of charity work in Asia, as well as adopting daughter Soon-Yi Previn from Korea in 1978. The two would later become estranged when Previn became romantically involved with Farrow's then-partner Woody Allen.
Farrow and Allen's son Ronan Farrow was recently honoured with a Rhodes scholarship to study at Oxford University.
