Helen Skelton has spent Christmas Day in Antarctica as she prepares to begin a 500 mile charity trek to the South Pole.
The Blue Peter presenter spent Christmas Day at 71 degrees south in overnight temperatures of -20 degrees Celsius as she trains for her journey, which is due to start on New Year's Day, 2012.

Skelton said in a statement: "I had no idea I would miss my family this much on Christmas Day. I've been going through our Christmas traditions in my head and it's pretty weird not to be part of it.
"This year is certainly going to be different, I'll be having dehydrated goulash and some dried mango in a tent and will spend all day training. Still, I can't complain - this is without doubt the most beautiful place I've ever been. Happy Christmas!"
Skelton has previous experience of charity challenges, setting two Guinness World Records last year as she became the first person to solo kayak the length of the Amazon.

She also walked on a high-wire between two of the towers at Battersea Power Station for Comic Relief earlier this year.
Skelton is attempting to reach the South Pole on her own using a variety of modes of transport including a specially designed ice bike.
She can be sponsored via the official Sport Relief website at www.sportrelief.com/helen.
