In an interview with Men's Journal, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star described politicians as "s**theads", claiming that there is nothing genuine about actors who become involved with government officials.
"Tony Blair started it much more than anybody's ever done. 'Go and have tea at 10 Downing Street.' It becomes Mephisto," Craig explained, referring to the novel which sees an actor join the Nazi party in the hope of finding success in the industry.
"You immediately are aligning yourself with a political party. Politicians are s**theads. That's how they become politicians, even the good ones. We're actors, we're artists, we're very nice to each other. They'll turn around and stab you in the f**king back."
Craig went on to say that actors should refrain from becoming involved with politics if at all possible, saying that George Clooney is the only celebrity he can think of who actually has a handle on the topic and can hold his own.
"George has his finger on the political pulse, and he's one of those guys who can get up and talk, and I don't have that," Craig added.
"If someone shoves a microphone in your face and says, 'Explain yourself', you have to have a 100% understanding of why you're doing it, and unless you're 100%, don't f**king do it, leave it alone, let your work speak for itself."
