'American Idol's Danny Gokey engaged to girlfriend Leyicet Peralta

Danny Gokey is engaged to be married to girlfriend Leyicet Peralta.

The American Idol veteran announced plans to wed his girlfriend late next month on the charity website Sophia's Heart, which was established in memory of Gokey's late wife Sophia.

"Three years since the passing of his beloved wife, Sophia, former American Idol Finalist and CEO of Sophia's Heart, Danny Gokey has announced his engagement to girlfriend, Leyicet Peralta," read the announcement.

"Danny announced his engagement recently to family and friends," the statement continued. "The couple is planning a wedding for late January, 2012."

The couple also posted a separate statement about the news.

"We are thankful for so many of the blessings God has given us," they said. "It is our desire to see homeless children and families be kept together and lifted back on their feet through the help of Sophia's Heart. We love and appreciate you all."

In March, Gokey was named as one of the acts to join Taylor Swift for the North American leg of her world tour.

Last year, the singer said that he feels "very lucky" following his recent success, adding that he is very happy to be enjoying life again.
