Karl Stefanovic has said that being on the yacht that won this year's Sydney to Hobart race was "amazing".

The Gold Logie-winning TV personality - who is co-anchor of Nine Network morning show Today - joined the crew of the Investec Loyal for the Bluewater Classic and celebrated with them as the yacht claimed victory over last year's winner Wild Oats XI.

Stefanovic told the Australian Daily Telegraph: "It doesn't get any better than this. To come through and get over the line first, I couldn't have dreamed of it."

The Investec Loyal had come from second place behind Wild Oats XI to seize victory on Wednesday evening (December 28). A protest accusing the yacht's crew of seeking outside assistance during the race has since been dismissed.

Stefanovic also referred to his previously-documented bout of seasickness during the race, adding: "A lot of the professional sailors were sick as well, so I haven't embarrassed myself."

Seven Network morning anchor Larry Emdur paid tribute to his breakfast show rival on Twitter, quipping: "Karl was spewing that he did go, now I'm spewing that I didn't."

He also described the Investec Loyal's victory as "an amazing story of an underdog beating the biggest, best & fastest in the world", highlighting that the crew had raised over $2 million (£1.3 million) for children's hospital equipment.
