Sinead O'Connor on failed marriage: 'He was frightened by my drugs'

Sinead O'Connor has apparently revealed that her relationship with fourth husband Barry Herridge collapsed because he was "very frightened" of her drug use.

The 'Nothing Compares 2 U' singer announced on Tuesday (December 27) that the couple had decided to separate after just 16 days of marriage.

O'Connor claimed that "intense pressure" from Herridge's loved ones had contributed to their split, but reportedly says that a "wild ride" she took him on in search of cannabis pushed the couple to breaking point.

"We ended up in a cab in some place that was quite dangerous," The Sun quotes her as saying. "I wasn't scared - but he's a drugs counsellor. What was I thinking?

"Then I was handed a load of crack. Barry was very frightened - that kind of messed everything up a bit really."

She added: "It felt like I was living in a coffin. It was going to be a coffin for both of us and I saw him crushed. The whole reason I ended it was out of respect and love for the man."

The 45-year-old noted that she has no desire to get married again in the future, saying: "I don't think I will even date anyone."
