Clarkson will return to her hometown of New Orleans to take part in the Krewe of Muses procession when Mardi Gras kicks off in February.
The all-female Krewe of Muses has attracted more than 2,000 members since it was founded in 2001 to celebrate the diversity of New Orleans.
Clarkson's participation in the parade will see her follow in the footsteps of the city's Poet Laureate Brenda Marie Osbey and jazz star Charmaine Neville of the famed Neville music family.
The 2012 Krewe of Muses celebration is to be held on February 16.
Clarkson recently wrapped up a series of guest appearances as Tammy Swanson I on the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation.
The actress has described Tammy I as "very intimidating", but added that she had a wonderful time working on the comedy series.
Parks and Recreation airs Thursdays at 8.30/7.30c on NBC.
