Eileen Joyce contacted police after being followed around Asda by a suspicious man in South Shields, South Tyneside, on Christmas Eve, the Daily Star reports.
Ennis McBride, 52, of Stockport, was arrested and charged with harassment, Northumbria Police confirmed.

He has been bailed until February following a hearing at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court, during which no pleas were entered.
