The Puss in Boots star has been granted the title of 'Chevalier' by French president Nicolas Sarkozy and will receive the Légion d'Honneur.
The formal induction ceremony, which will include a presidential medal pinning, will reportedly take place at the Élysées Palace at some point within the next two months.
Past recipients of the Légion d'Honneur include Jerry Lewis, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford and Robert De Niro.
Hayek recently confessed that she enjoys being independent and never wants to have to depend on anyone completely.
She has admitted that while she is happy with her life, she feels "constantly exhausted" by the responsibilities of juggling motherhood with a successful acting career.
