'19 Kids and Counting' Duggar family endorse Rick Santorum

By
19 Kids and Counting stars the Duggar family have endorsed Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum.

The Duggars appeared at a campaign event in Iowa ahead of today's (Tuesday's) caucus to officially back the conservative politician. They arrived in a bus which had Santorum's name painted across its side.

Jim Bob Duggar told Santorum's supporters that he is making the endorsement because of the former Senator's strong religious faith.

"You may not agree with everything that [Santorum] has done in the past. But you know what, you're not going to find the perfect candidate unless it's Jesus Christ running," Jim joked during the campaign event.

He continued: "He's somebody that doesn't take a poll to know where he stands. I'm asking families, Christians all over America, to get behind Rick Santorum for the next President of the United States."

Santorum's support in Iowa has surged in recent days and some pundits have predicted that he may place high in Tuesday's caucus.

Jim, who was joined by wife Michelle at the event, held political office in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002.

The reality star previously supported former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee in the 2008 presidential election.

In December, the Duggars suffered a personal tragedy when Michelle miscarried her 20th child.

The family's campaign stop in Iowa marked one of their first public appearances since Michelle lost her baby.

Earlier this week, Santorum's Republican rival Mitt Romney compared US President Barack Obama to Kim Kardashian.
