Brad Pitt injured while carrying daughter Vivienne

Brad Pitt was injured when he fell while carrying his daughter Vivienne.

The father of six was first seen walking with a cane earlier this week. While attending the Palm Springs International Film Festival, the actor revealed that he had hurt himself while trying to protect his 3-year-old daughter after he fell with her in his arms, E! Online reports.

Pitt's partner Angelina Jolie confessed that she sustained a similar injury years ago.

"When [Maddox] was younger, I took a fall and cracked my elbow because I wanted to make sure he didn't have the fall," Jolie said. "Every parent has injured themselves. Every parent will stand in the line of fire for their kids, so it's a normal thing."

Pitt was awarded the Desert Palm Achievement Award at last night's (January 7) gala.

Jolie recently joked that Pitt is a "pushover" when it comes to their children.

Pitt recently completed work on the film World War Z. Earlier this month, he revealed that the zombie apocalypse epic is planned as a trilogy.

World War Z will open in cinemas on December 21.
