Heidi Klum father "very sad" over Seal separation

Heidi Klum's father has expressed sadness over the supermodel's separation from husband Seal.

Klum and Seal confirmed on Sunday that they have reached an "amicable" decision to end their marriage.

"While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate," the couple said in a statement.

The news came amid a flurry of rumours that Klum and Seal were headed for a break-up.

Klum's dad Gunther Klum has now publicly commented on his daughter's separation, telling Us Weekly that he feels sorry for the pair.

"We are very sad," Gunther insisted.

Gunther also said he is hoping to speak to Heidi later today in order to comfort his daughter.

Seal and Klum were wed on May 10, 2005 at the Costa Careyes beach in Mexico. The couple renewed their vows each consecutive year on their anniversary.

They are parents to three children, 6-year-old Henry, 5-year-old Johan and 2-year-old Lou. Seal also adopted Klum's daughter Leni, who the Project Runway presenter had in her previous relationship with Flavio Briatore.
