Jay Cutler: 'I never broke up with Kristin Cavallari'

Jay Cutler has insisted that he never broke up with Kristin Cavallari.

The couple first announced their engagement in April 2011, though the NFL player was reported to have broken up with Cavallari just months later.

Cutler and the former Hills star have since become engaged for the second time and announced this week that they are expecting their first child together later this year.

Writing on his Twitter page, Cutler addressed rumours that he was the one behind their initial split, insisting that there is no truth to the stories.

"Thanks for all the tweets. We couldn't be more excited," he wrote in response to the many well-wishers offering their congratulations to news of Cavallari's pregnancy.

"We don't usually comment on our relationship but for the record I never broke up with Kristin. Its unfortunate some people are saying hurtful things during such a joyous moment in our life."

Cavallari has also thanked fans for their congratulations via her on Twitter page, writing: "Thanks for all the sweet messages! We are so excited for this little bun in the oven :) (sic)"
