Geoff Huegill and wife Sara welcome baby daughter

Geoff Huegill has become a father for the first time.

The Australian swimming champion, who married publicist Sara in a private ceremony in Bali last May, welcomed a baby daughter on Saturday.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the baby arrived a week before its due date while Geoff was preparing for the NSW swimming championships at a training camp.

The couple have decided not to release any details of their new daughter to the media, with rumours of them selling the story exclusively to a magazine.

When the Huegills announced that they were expecting, they admitted that Sara was in "complete shock" after doing a pregnancy test. They said: "We just sat there, looking at one another in complete disbelief. It wasn't planned, but it's something both of us have always wanted. It just happened a little quicker than we thought."

Geoff has previously admitted that his "main focus" for 2012 is participating in the Olympics, saying: "If I do qualify, fingers crossed, consider this - Sara is going to be sitting proudly in the stands with our new little baby in her arms. Imagine that."

Last year, he said that he felt "very fortunate" and "lucky" to have his then-fiancée because she was willing to put her life aside to let him "concentrate on swimming".
