Shannon Noll has revealed his heartbreak after his father's death.
The Australian singer, who is best known for songs such as 'Lift' and 'What About Me', was devastated when he found dad Neil had been crushed by a 600kg fuel tank at their family farm in 2001. His father was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Noll said in ABC documentary Family Confidential: "I drove in the gate with a mate and thought, 'Who's that on the ground?' and then reality hit.
"Most people are aware of the story only vaguely, so I saw [making a documentary] as an opportunity to shed a bit of light on all the details. It was a chance to delve a bit deeper into the actual impact."
After his dad's death, Noll said that he and his brothers fell out and the family farm had to be sold.
He explained: "We were at the brink of losing everything - even our souls."
Noll then entered Australian Idol in 2003 and came second to Guy Sebastian. He soon married Rochelle Ogston, gave his mother some money and patched things up with his siblings, even giving them jobs as musicians in his band.
Talking of dealing with his father's death, he said: "I was definitely in denial for a long time, [but] what [my mother] has had to deal with, I can't even imagine. Losing everything she lived for."
