Donald Trump to endorse presidential candidate later today?

Donald Trump will reportedly endorse a Republican presidential candidate later today (February 2).

A source close to the Celebrity Apprentice star told CBS News that Trump will appear at Trump International Hotel & Tower in Las Vegas this afternoon in order to officially announce his support for former US Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

However, another political insider claimed that Trump had not yet made up his mind as of earlier this week and was still considering endorsing Gingrich's rival Mitt Romney, according to Politico.

Trump has so far only clarified that he will make a major political announcement today, but has not divulged if it will be a presidential endorsement.

Gingrich remained coy when asked by reporters about Trump's possible endorsement, saying that he has "no idea what the Donald is going to do".

The politician added: "He is always interesting and I don't know of anybody who does a better job of getting attention by announcing that he will presently announce something."



Last year, Trump hinted that he might run for the presidency in the 2012 election as a Republican.

The reality star slammed US President Barack Obama in a series of interviews, claiming that the country is "going to hell" under Obama's leadership.

Trump officially quit the presidential race in May 2011 in order to focus on the new season of The Celebrity Apprentice.

In December, Trump resigned his membership of the Republican party when several of the candidates declined to take part in a debate he was to moderate. Gingrich was one of the only presidential hopefuls who had agreed to take part in the debate prior to its cancellation.
