The Country Strong actress, who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, suggested in her GOOP newsletter that a $25 (£15) "Kama Sutra kit" and the book 1001 Nights of Grrreat Sex could spice things up on February 14.
"This is not just another sex book," the website says of the guide, which includes "secret sealed envelopes" containing love tasks for couples. "[It] sounds simple but the anticipation and mystery makes even the smallest gestures pretty thrilling."
Paltrow also advised readers to wake their partners on Valentine's Day with a romantic playlist consisting of artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Sade and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Another idea involved setting an alarm for a significant other and telling them to look in their pocket, where a love note or special gift would be waiting for them.
Paltrow explained last year that she began lifestyle website GOOP in order to inspire others.
