The Lord of the Rings actor, who is currently in New Zealand filming The Hobbit movies, said that he felt very "proud" of his model wife Kerr for quickly getting down to her pre-pregnancy weight so that she could get back on the catwalk.
Bloom told The Kyle and Jackie O Show: "I was very proud of her. To have just had a baby and then got back up on [the catwalk] to do that. I don't think its easy for those girls. They make it look easy, but you know, it's a lot of work to look good.
"[Models need] confidence to strut it out there. There's always the people that want to have a dig at you for this that and the other. That's the price you pay."
Bloom also admitted that he prefers babysitting to red carpet events since becoming a father, saying: "Where it is possible I try to make a point of doing it myself. He's a baby. I hate to not see him walking and crawling and doing all those things and I just like hanging out with him.
"It's the nature of our lives. Time sort of loses its perspective and where were you and what were you doing... I don't want that to be that case with Flynn. I really want to have that connection and feel that bond."
Bloom also described it as "a tragedy" that he would not be spending Valentine's Day with Kerr this year, adding: "She probably doesn't care."
