Cee Lo Green: 'I'm sure MIA regrets Super Bowl gesture'

Cee Lo Green has predicted that MIA regrets making a controversial hand gesture at this month's Super Bowl.
MIA sparked controversy by flipping her middle finger during Madonna's half-time set at the Super Bowl at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indiana on Sunday, February 5.

Cee Lo, who also featured during the set, was asking about the incident during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
"It most certainly wasn't planned. I just think she got a little [caught up] in the heat of the moment and did something that I'm sure she regrets, but I didn't know anything about it until the day afterwards," he said.
Madonna recently branded the gesture a "teenager, irrelevant thing to do", saying: "I wasn't happy about it. I know it's kind of punk-rock and everything, but to me, there was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity, and it just seemed negative."
Discussing his performance with Madonna, Cee Lo told Jay Leno: "We were definitely trying to keep it a surprise. It was under strict orders of Queen Madonna that we didn't reveal the secret performance!"
As for where he got his choir robe, he joked: "I was briefed about what the staging would be like and they needed measurements from my stylist for a choir robe and I said, 'I got one already!' I had a few of them!"

Meanwhile, Cee Lo also spoke with Leno about the new season of The Voice, which kicked off to record viewing figures immediately after the Super Bowl.
Discussing the blind audition format, he said: "It's definitely the story of my life. I don't think I look the way I sound. I'm an advocate of the underdog and want people's priorities to be in order and true talent should matter the most."
As for whether there is any competition between himself and fellow coaches Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine, he said: "It's not as competitive as people would think because we all come from very different places with Blake being country, Christina and Adam being pop, and me being alternative.
"I believe there is more of a camaraderie and co-existence than competition."
The Voice airs Mondays at 8/7c on NBC.
