Doug Stanhope: 'Ricky Gervais is my biggest fan'

Comedian Doug Stanhope has joked that Ricky Gervais might just be his biggest fan.
Stanhope told Reuters that although he's never actually met the British comedian, Gervais has touted his comedy on his blog and in interviews.
"I've never worked with Ricky Gervais, but for some reason, he started being my de facto publicist, he started twittering about me. Never met him... but I like it," he said, adding humorously: "I'm really easily starstruck by anyone."
Stanhope is currently playing the alcoholic Eddie on Louis CK's FX series Louie, but downplayed any desire to take on more acting roles.
"Acting is horrifying, the whole idea of it. It feels so false, it never feels comfortable acting," the star admitted. "With [stand-up] comedy, the pay-off is immediate and the work is minimal. With television, it's a serious job."
Louie will premiere its third season later this year.
