The Contraband star, who has four children with model Rhea Durham, said that he never wants his own kids to get tattoos.
"[All the tattoos] have meaning to me, but it's both personal and professional," Wahlberg told Today of his decision to get his body art removed.
"I don't want my kids getting tattoos," he continued. "And I wanted them to be [removed] by the time I did The Fighter because putting make-up on and covering them up has always been a pain in the butt.
"I've taken my two older kids to the procedure so they see how painful it is and what I have to go through."
The actor recently caused controversy when he asserted that he could have saved one of the planes involved in the 9/11 attacks if he had been on board.
Wahlberg confessed in January that he cried while watching The Help.
