Houston was laid to rest on Sunday (February 19) in Westfield, NJ after passing away suddenly on February 11 at the age of 48 while staying at a hotel in Los Angeles.
Gibson was invited to the singer's funeral on Saturday (February 18) because he allegedly reached out to Houston in years past, privately encouraging her to seek treatment for her addiction to cocaine, marijuana and other drugs, TMZ reports.
Gibson, who has himself battled alcohol addiction in the past, has previously reached out to celebrities like Britney Spears and Robert Downey Jr.
He was ultimately unable to attend Houston's service due to family commitments.
Actor Kevin Costner was also invited to attend the singer's funeral, where he gave an emotional speech on her passing.
Earlier in the week, the Bodyguard star released a statement on Houston's death, saying that he should have tried to save her.
