The Australian singer, who recently announced new single 'Happiness', said that he exercised to get in shape for the release of his second album Return to Paradise because he believes male artists have to be "macho" rather than "fabulous".
Sparro told The Daily Telegraph: "[I] did the whole LA thing and got a personal trainer. Men aren't allowed to be fabulous, dandy entertainers; they have to be cavemen - macho misogynist monsters.
"And you have women now taking the lead on exploiting their sexuality as a powerful tool. If a gay man does that, it makes some people feel uncomfortable."
Sparro is scheduled to perform at Sydney's Mardi Gras festival next week. He said of the event: "I am sort of terrified and excited.
"I've got a private party to perform at the night before and then I think I'll sleep, get up at 6am and get ready to do it."
Kylie Minogue has already been confirmed as a headline performer at the Mardi Gras. George Michael also recently revealed that he "may be back" to sing at the festival.
