Rhys Meyers looks down on TV roles

Jonathan Rhys Meyers has admitted that he believes accepting a television role would ruin his career.

Despite the recent moves by Sir Ian McKellen and Peter Kay to appear in popular soaps, the Match Point actor is adamant that he would never make a similar decision as he does not consider it as serious work.

He told Elle: "I'll watch Footballer's Wives, though I'd never consider a role on it as it would be very career-damaging.

The star added: "People would think, 'Why the f**k are you doing that? Can't you get a proper job?'"
