Kirk Cameron's 'Growing Pains' co-stars condemn anti-gay remarks

By
Growing Pains' Tracey Gold and Alan Thicke have appeared to condemn former co-star Kirk Cameron's claim that homosexuality is "unnatural".

Cameron was denounced by GLAAD last week, after the actor said homosexuality is "detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilisation" during an interview on Piers Morgan Tonight.

The actor-turned-preacher's fellow Growing Pains stars Thicke and Gold have reacted to his comments on Twitter, with both distancing themselves from Cameron's viewpoint.

Thicke took a humorous approach with his response, tweeting: "I'm getting him some new books. The Old Testament simply can't be expected to explain everything… I love Kirk but I may have to spank him...'tho not in a gay way!"

Gold did not actually reference Cameron, but did post a message of support for the LGBT community.

"I am a strong supporter of the #LGBT Community, and I believe in equal rights for all," the actress said.

Cameron previously made controversial comments in 2011, when he told Anderson Cooper that he is on a journey to stop the US from "financially, morally, spiritually" sinking.

The actor famously starred as teen heartthrob Mike Seaver on Growing Pains. Gold played Mike's uptight sister Carol Seaver and Thicke was the Seaver family patriarch Dr Jason Seaver.
