Max Markson loses driving licence after 20 speeding fines in 20 months

By
Max Markson has lost his driving licence.

The Australian celebrity agent, who appeared on last year's Celebrity Apprentice, had his licence suspended after receiving 20 speeding fines in the past 20 months.

Markson confirmed to The Daily Telegraph that he is not allowed to drive for three months, but has hired a driver until he gets his licence back.

He also admitted that it is the fourth time in 40 years that he has been banned from getting behind the wheel of a car.

Markson was accused last year of escaping demerit points by paying tens of thousands of dollars in road fines, but not nominating a driver of the offending vehicle.

He denied paying $35,000 (£23,000) in fines, but did admit that he paid over $5,000 (£3,300) for failing to name the driver of one of the cars registered to his company.

The government announced last week that it would be combating the "Markson loophole" by fining companies that refuse to name the driver of any speeding vehicle.

Markson was quoted as saying that he is "very impressed" to have had a loophole named after him.

"It's the second time it has happened," he said. "There was one about 10 years ago that related to election fundraising."

In Celebrity Apprentice, Markson caused controversy when he called fellow contestant and male model Didier Cohen a "drug addict". He later apologised for his remarks.
