In the interview, Houston's manager Patricia admitted that she would be "kidding herself" to dismiss fears that the 48-year-old's past drug addiction contributed to her downfall.
Asked by Winfrey if she ever felt that drugs would end up "taking" Whitney, Patricia replied: "The handwriting was kind of on the wall."
However, she insisted that Houston's final days weren't "about substance abuse or anything like that".
"It was just more of a lifestyle," she explained. "I was afraid for other things. I saw her chasing a dream, you know, looking for love in all the wrong places."
The full interview will be screened on OWN at 9pm EST, following a re-airing of Winfrey's 2009 chat with Whitney.
