'TOWIE's Lauren Pope calls PIP breast implants "ticking timebomb"

By
Lauren Pope has spoken of her relief after having her Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) breast implants removed.

The Only Way Is Essex star was one of around 40,000 women in the UK who have had the French implants fitted. After high rupture rates from France, the British government called for private clinics to remove them.

Pope revealed that she has since had another operation to replace them, and described her original PIP implants as a "ticking timebomb".

"I thought, 'I won't have had those PIP implants - I went to a reputable surgeon'," Pope told The Sun. "But I was told I did have them and a scan showed one of mine had leaked.

"When I saw that I just wanted them out. It felt like it was a ticking timebomb."

Pope added that she did not want to have to go back for more surgery after the pain she experienced with her initial implants.

"I was shaking and crying as I went to the clinic. I always said I wouldn't get them redone," she recalled. "I was like a hunchback for two weeks afterwards. My dad had to help me get out of bed every morning, I couldn't get up on my own.

"I was probably naïve and I didn't do much research. I never thought to check what was in the implants. You go to a nice Harley Street office, with all these certificates around the room and a doctor who knows what he's talking about tells you these implants are really safe. Why wouldn't you believe them?"

Pope said of the second procedure: "The operation was so much easier the second time round. I did a lot more research and I've got a book telling me exactly what is in the new implants.

"I always try to put a positive spin on things. I'd never been fully happy with the shape and position of my first set, so why not use this to my advantage? I've gone up another size, so I'm a DD now and they're a slightly different shape."

Katie Price appeared on Newsnight last month to discuss the PIP breast implants scandal.

Pope launched her own online dating agency called 'Hope with Pope' in February.
