January Jones has revealed that she ate her own placenta following the birth of her child.

The Mad Men star, who welcomed son Xander Dane Jones in September 2011, said that she saved her placenta from the birth and had it made into vitamins.

"It's not witch-crafty or anything! I suggest it to all mums! Your placenta gets dehydrated and made into vitamins," Jones told People.

"It's something I was very hesitant about, but we're the only mammals who don't ingest our own placentas," she added.

Jones also revealed during that her post-pregnancy health regime includes "vitamins and teas".

The actress recently admitted that being a working mother is difficult, though she said that the set of Mad Men was very accomodating to her needs.

The fifth season of Mad Men premiered tonight (March 25) at 9pm on AMC in the US. The show will debut on Tuesday, March 27 at 9pm on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
